Microsoft Formed Their Own Studio Just for Age of Empires

It doesn’t get more classic than Age of Empires. And even though it’s been a long time, Microsoft is committing to the franchise even more. The major tech company has formed a new studio dedicated to Age of Empires.

First found by PC Gamer, the information came as part of their E3 press conference. During the event, Microsoft unveiled Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition. Shortly after, the official website reveals that they formed a new studio for the game series.

“There will be a total of 15 unique, standalone studios that comprise Xbox Game Studios, including our newly-created Age of Empires studio headed by Shannon Loftis and our Publishing group headed by Peter Wyse. We are committing more resources and dedicated leadership to the Age of Empires franchise to ensure that its legacy on PC continues in service of the passionate community of faithful fans.”

Last we heard, Age of Empires 4 is still under development by Relic Entertainment. So this new studio will be unrelated to the upcoming title. AoE 4 was noticeably absent from this year’s E3, so we might be stuck waiting longer than expected.

Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition will release in Fall of this year.
