Age of Empires is a historical landmark for RTS gaming on PC. But it might not stay on the platform forever. Microsoft is hinting at Age of Empires 4 releasing on Xbox as well.
According to Microsoft’s Shannon Loftis, in a report by Stevivor, the game might expand beyond PC. When asked they explained that their priority is with a PC interface. This tracks, given the game’s history with the platform.
“We are working hard to make sure to visualize all the different ways that people are going to want to experience Age [Of Empires]. But our number one priority is to make it work great with keyboard and mouse.”
But with that said, they haven’t entirely ruled out the idea of bringing the game to other formats. So long as it doesn’t get in the way of PC development, that is.
“We’re going to explore our options. Once we have our wonderful PC game, then we’ll start looking at other ways that we can show up.”
It can be hard playing an RTS on a console, given the limited precision and range of control that a console controller has. But it’s been done before with Halo Wars, another Microsoft title.
At the same time, this is no guarantee that it’ll come to Xbox. It’s just not a no.
